Still Standing! 50 years of the occupation of the St Nizier Church
On June 2, 1975, a hundred prostitutes occupied the Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon (France). They were protesting against the recurrent assaults to which they were subjected, and against the police harassment that prevented them from working, overwhelmed them with fines and sought to imprison them. This revolutionary occupation was followed by a multitude of others in France's largest cities.
50 years later, what is the state of sex workers' struggles for their right to safety and autonomy? As UTSOPI celebrates its 10th anniversary, we invite you to a day of round-table discussions, speeches, performances and information stands at the Eglise du Béguinage/House of compassion. Detailed program coming soon.
