Include UTSOPI in your will
More and more people are including a cause they care about in their will. By including UTSOPI in yours, you support the fight for equal rights for sex workers and contribute to a better and safer future for sex workers in Belgium and beyond.
How does it work?
Draft a will
A will is essential if you want to decide how your inheritance will be distributed. Without one, the law determines who your heirs are.
You can include UTSOPI in your will in two ways:
- Through a bequest: a fixed amount or specific asset
- By leaving a percentage or your entire inheritance
Consult a notary
A notary can help you make your will official. First, gather the necessary information: an overview of your assets, what you wish to bequeath, and any additional conditions. The notary will advise you on legal and fiscal matters and register your will in the Central Register of Wills.
Mention UTSOPI correctly in your will
To avoid any misunderstandings, it's important to clearly include our full organizational details:
UTSOPI vzw
rue d'Aerschot 208, 1030 Schaerbeek
VAT BE 0679.693.846
Important: inheritance tax varies by region
If you live in Flanders
In Flanders, including UTSOPI in your will is simple. Since July 2021, a 0% inheritance tax applies to donations to good causes. This means your entire donation goes directly to UTSOPI, with no tax deduction.
Note: The so-calledĀ duo bequest (a combination of a bequest to a charity and to a friend or family member) is no longer fiscally advantageous in Flanders due to the 2021 legal change. If your will includes such an arrangement, contact your notary.
If you live in Brussels or Wallonia
In Brussels and Wallonia, a 7% inheritance tax applies to bequests to good causes. TheĀ duo bequest remains a valid and sometimes advantageous option. Consult your notary to determine what is fiscally most beneficial for your situation.
